Dr Shantanu Sengupta and his team develop a rapid diagnostic method to detect the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 infection

As you are aware that in the last few months, the global catastrophic outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 affecting millions of people worldwide. The early diagnosis and isolation are key to contain the rapid spread of the virus. Towards this goal, Dr Shantanu Sengupta & team at Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) developed a targeted mass spectrometric approach to detect peptides specific to SARS-CoV-2. This method offers more than 90% sensitivity and 100% specificity when compared to RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) method.

This excellent piece of work is now published in our JPP Journal.
